With the launch of the IL4SH eBook in October, we reached an important milestone in our journey. The eBook brings together reflections, concepts and practical inspiration for intergenerational sustainability learning in households.

But IL4SH does not stop at inspiration.

Our next step is to make sustainability learning even more accessible and practical — through the development of a Virtual Toolkit that will support educators, learners and families in turning ideas into action.

Why a Virtual Toolkit?

While the eBook provides background and guidance, many educators and families are asking for something more interactive:

  • ready-to-use activities,
  • adaptable templates,
  • practical exercises,
  • and tools that can be directly implemented in classrooms and households.

The Virtual Toolkit aims to respond to this need.

It will bring together digital resources that help users:

  • initiate intergenerational dialogue,
  • conduct small sustainability experiments at home,
  • reflect on household routines,
  • document insights and improvements,
  • and share experiences within the IL4SH community.

A Space for Practical Exploration

The toolkit is currently under development and will gradually evolve into a structured digital space where sustainability learning becomes tangible and hands-on.

It will not replace the eBook — instead, it will complement it.

If the eBook offers orientation and conceptual grounding, the Virtual Toolkit will offer practice-oriented support.

Designed for Real Life

Just like the IL4SH project itself, the toolkit focuses on everyday realities. Sustainability learning should be:

  • manageable,
  • adaptable,
  • engaging across generations,
  • and connected to daily life.

The digital format allows us to update and expand the toolkit over time — integrating examples, feedback and new ideas emerging from schools and families involved in the project.

Looking Ahead to 2025

In the coming months, we will continue developing and testing the Virtual Toolkit together with our partners. Step by step, it will become an interactive companion to the IL4SH approach.

We look forward to sharing further updates as the toolkit takes shape — and to seeing how educators and families use it to transform everyday routines into sustainability learning opportunities.

Because real change happens not only through information — but through action.
